What is checkDAT?

checkDAT is a widget that makes it easy to create a list of items that can be placed any web page as a whole list or individual items. Then users can keep track of their progress by checking off items and the data is stored in our database. To log in you will need a valid MSU Net ID or Community ID. Results can be gathered from anyone, anywhere.

  • We've changed the format of the Use code snippet to improve performance. Please note that there is no longer a placeholder image. Your old code snippets will continue to work just fine, so you don't need to change anything.
If your checkDAT items aren't loading properly since the update, please clear your browser cache and try again.

  • Any changes made in checkDAT between 3/7/2012 ~1:00pm and 3/8/2012 ~12:30pm have been lost.
We lost power in our server room yesterday during a test of the database power systems, causing checkDAT to be temporarily unavailable. Due to a mistake in bringing the service back online, we lost the data from the period mentioned above. I'm terribly sorry for any and all trouble this has caused.

  • I patched checkDAT, adding IE cross-domain (non-MSU) support. I also fixed a few minor bugs. If you experience a problem, please clear your browser cache if you haven't already done so.

  • I patched checkDAT, adding auto-login functionality. So if users are already logged (such as in ANGEL) they should see the items with question-marks on them momentarily, then automatically have the actual check items load. If you experience any weirdness, please clear your browser cache and try again.

BUG: I discovered that checkDAT is NOT WORKING in Internet Explorer when it is embedded in a non-msu.edu site. I'm working to resolve the problem, but IE users on non-msu.edu sites will currently get an error message telling about this incompatability.

  • IMPORTANT: On (1/17/2012) checkDAT was upgraded to a new version and server. Your data was transferred and your items should still work.

All of your data was transferred and your current items will continue to work, but they may have been shuffled around a bit (just on this site, not what students see). Sorry for any and all inconveniences. Look for the new "Move Multiple" button that we've added to ease the process of organizing your content.

The new checkDAT will ignore $USER_ID$ in the embed snippet. This will only matter to you if you're using checkDAT somewhere other than ANGEL. Please with questions or concerns.

  • Bug Fix: couldn't share editing with new users.
February 17th, 2010
  • checkDAT 1.1.0 is finally here. Here are a few improvements:
    • checkDAT is secure. You can now use https in your USE code. That means that your users won't get annoying confirmation boxes in IE. You can replace 'http' with 'https' in your old USE code.
    • You can now share editing with users that haven't logged into checkDAT yet. We're using LDAP to look up users, so if they're in the public MSU LDAP directory they can be added.
    • Embedding duplicate check items in a single page is detected and handled more gracefully now.
    • Various workflow improvements to the maintenance site.

  • checkDAT was generating invalid embed snippets since I patched it yesterday afternoon. If you've gotten any USE (embed) code from the site yesterday or today you may need to get the corrected USE (embed) code from the checkDAT site.

  • A few minor bugs have crept up. I installed a new version of the site today that patches them. Hopefully this will clear up all the issues and I didn't break anything new.

  • We released a new version of checkDAT today. You can now organize your lists into folders, share editing privileges, change list ownership, etc.

  • A bug was discovered and fixed today that was causing individual check items to not check/uncheck properly.
  • checkDAT may be down briefly next Monday so we can upgrade the program. The new version has been a long time coming, but adds a lot of nice features to the administration screens.
